Urban Decay

Vanishing Point

Another vanishing point pic – cool. This one is of the abandoned Montefibre industrial plant in Ivrea. It must have been Japanese Anime which first pulled my interest in visions of urban decay. Many Anime features have sets designed from shots of modern day metros… but fast forwarded centuries into the future. So the backdrops look eerily familiar but distant and hauntingly decrepit. This is a stark contrast to the *other* typical futurist’s view in which buildings and structures are simply replaced with brand new buildings with their shiny veneers.

Decay happens. Even under the duress of a few short decades; even buildings have a lifespan. It’s a reminder of our fragile human lives on this planet – short and brief.
