Though this shot was taken in Germany, it reminds me of Japan. In Japan, there are even “capsule hotels” which are hotels where the sleeping quarters are like capsules nestled into wallspace… much like a condensed, hive-like existence. It is interesting to notice how living and working spaces are adapted to the point where they resemble features encountered in nature…

which reminds me of a modern Japanese poem which told of a lonely female traveller waiting at a train station imagining what it would be like to meet her true love (if she had one) on his arrival at the station.

The Oakland Skyline reflected on the surface of Lake Merritt. I pass this lake every day on my way to work but from underground (the subway). I hardly ever get a chance to marvel at its beauty, such as at a moment like this.
